Narrative:
On a VFR flight dec/1988 from kinston (iso) to columbia (cae), I had estimated my time en route to 2 hours. I had filed and activated my VFR flight plan in iso with hubert FSS. 20 NM north of florence I had already used 1 hour 45 min because of strong headwinds. I tried contacting anderson FSS and hubert FSS by radio without results. I then contacted florence FSS and explained my situation and asked for a delay of 1 hour for my estimate time en route. Florence FSS did not find my flight plan or could see that I had activated one for my route of flight. I was told to continue my flight and contact anderson on my arrival in cae. When I arrived, I was told by anderson FSS that they had started search and rescue for me.
