Narrative:
At FL310 cruise confign with autoplt engaged, red low pressure elevator light began flashing on forward panel. Checked F/east position both B pump low pressure lights 'on' and B system fluid and quantity zero. Called for the 'loss of hydraulic pressure and/or fluid' checklist and accomplished it. Determined that brake system had not been affected and all hydraulic required systems were being powered by 'a' system. Notified approach control of our problem and requested emergency equipment standing by. Landed, taxied and secured without incident. Released emergency equipment after secured at gate. After maintenance check, found a 1 inch piece of 'B' return line had ruptured. Loss of 'B' fluid and pressure were immediate. 'B' line was replaced, pressure checked by maintenance. Aircraft continued without further problems.
