Narrative:

During descent for landing at ont encountered unreported (to us) moderate to frequently severe turbulence and moderate icing from 13000-8000'. Had just switched from ZLA to ont approach. Reported conditions to them. They said they had received other reports of severe turbulence and severe icing and had advised ZLA. ZLA issued no warnings while we were on their frequency. All passenger, but one who ignored the seat belt sign and passenger announcement and went to lav, were seated and belted. No injuries. One galley carrier F/a's could not secure in time fell out, but did no damage. ZLA apparently was not taking PIREPS relayed by ont seriously. Had we known we could have delayed our approach until having sufficient information to avoid the turbulence or proceeded to our alternate if that was not possible. There was nothing in the appearance of the clouds or in the radar return to suggest severe or even moderate turbulence. We should have been warned. Someone could have been hurt. (Autoplt was engaged throughout encounter, would have been worse west/O it.) target airspeed during encounter was 250 KTS. Actual airspeed varied from 230-270 KTS. Pitch attitude varied +/-5 degrees from normal in spite of autoplt being engaged. Another flight later in the day had a similar experience and, again, was not warned. Heard several complaints on radio from air carrier B flts about same turbulence. Apparently they weren't warned either.

Title: ZLA FAILING TO GIVE ADVISORIES ON SEVERE TURBULENCE AND ICING.

Narrative: DURING DSCNT FOR LNDG AT ONT ENCOUNTERED UNREPORTED (TO US) MODERATE TO FREQUENTLY SEVERE TURB AND MODERATE ICING FROM 13000-8000'. HAD JUST SWITCHED FROM ZLA TO ONT APCH. RPTED CONDITIONS TO THEM. THEY SAID THEY HAD RECEIVED OTHER RPTS OF SEVERE TURB AND SEVERE ICING AND HAD ADVISED ZLA. ZLA ISSUED NO WARNINGS WHILE WE WERE ON THEIR FREQ. ALL PAX, BUT ONE WHO IGNORED THE SEAT BELT SIGN AND PAX ANNOUNCEMENT AND WENT TO LAV, WERE SEATED AND BELTED. NO INJURIES. ONE GALLEY CARRIER F/A'S COULD NOT SECURE IN TIME FELL OUT, BUT DID NO DAMAGE. ZLA APPARENTLY WAS NOT TAKING PIREPS RELAYED BY ONT SERIOUSLY. HAD WE KNOWN WE COULD HAVE DELAYED OUR APCH UNTIL HAVING SUFFICIENT INFO TO AVOID THE TURB OR PROCEEDED TO OUR ALTERNATE IF THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE APPEARANCE OF THE CLOUDS OR IN THE RADAR RETURN TO SUGGEST SEVERE OR EVEN MODERATE TURB. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. (AUTOPLT WAS ENGAGED THROUGHOUT ENCOUNTER, WOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE W/O IT.) TARGET AIRSPD DURING ENCOUNTER WAS 250 KTS. ACTUAL AIRSPD VARIED FROM 230-270 KTS. PITCH ATTITUDE VARIED +/-5 DEGS FROM NORMAL IN SPITE OF AUTOPLT BEING ENGAGED. ANOTHER FLT LATER IN THE DAY HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE AND, AGAIN, WAS NOT WARNED. HEARD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON RADIO FROM ACR B FLTS ABOUT SAME TURB. APPARENTLY THEY WEREN'T WARNED EITHER.
