Narrative:
When we were about 120 or so miles from our destination we got an EICAS spoiler fail message. We ran the QRH which stated that we were to land at the nearest suitable airport. We talked it over with dispatch and maintenance and came to the conclusion that it was more than likely a switch error; but decided to divert per QRH. We landed without further issues.
