Narrative:

Descending into sna with TCAS equipped medium large transport with a TCAS traffic advisory at 300', 3 mi at 2 O'clock and climbing. At 1 mi it changed to a traffic warning with a TCAS command to climb. As the traffic was visibility at this time we did initiate a 1500' rate of climb. At this time ATC called the traffic and said if we did not have the traffic visibility, to start an immediate descent. We leveled at 13800' and descended back to our assigned altitude of 13000' after the traffic passed below and behind us. The TCAS warning and commanded action turned out to be the correct one.
