Narrative:
This was the first time I flew this plane east of the mississippi river and I discovered that I didn't have that data pack. [I] had west of mississippi only. [I] lost GPS when I crossed into mississippi from arkansas. I was traveling by google maps at that time and approached bruce campbell field in madison; mississippi; which is 7 miles from jackson international and didn't call jackson tower to inform them of my intentions. This will be avoided in the future by affirming I have the whole us data package for the cessna and make sure I fully disclose my intentions to all towers within the given airspace that is dictated by the FAA regulations. Also; I will make sure I have paper charts for backup to the G1000. I was contacted by jackson tower with a polite verbal warning for my actions when I landed.
