Narrative:
Dfw departure cleared us to 17000', then advised traffic opp direction at 11 O'clock at 11000' MSL assigned. We saw the large transport when we were passing 11000' MSL. We then advised ATC of visibility contact and queried altitude assigned. ATC replied 10000'! All 3 (2 pilots and 1 ATC controller) of us confirmed the clearance and read back to 17000'.
