Narrative:
At cruise altitude 310, we had an intermittent #2 fire warning. We performed engine fire and severe damage checklist. When throttle was retarded, warning light extinguished, so we left engine running. We requested a lower altitude and direct dfw. After talking to dispatch coordination we dumped fuel. In descent about FL290 the #2 fire warning light illuminated momentarily, then went out. We elected to go to shv at that time because it was nearer. The #2 fire warning stayed out, so we felt that residual heat had caused the alarm, so we elected to continue to dfw. The #2 fire warning came on again. At this point we shut the engine down and the light went out for a few seconds, then came back on. We fired the 1ST fire bottle and waited. The light went out and then came on again. We fired the second bottle, but the light stayed on until the battery switch was turned off after landing. Landing was normal at majors field.
