Narrative:
We were flying the scurry 9 arrival to dfw. I had briefed the first officer on the ILS 35R approach. We were given numerous turns and speed changes during the arrival and still had to comply with crossing altitudes. In other words, we were very busy. Approach gave us a heading to intercept the localizer to 31R. We quickly briefed the ILS 31R approach. We were switched frequencys. The new controller said to expect stadium visibility 31R. I told the first officer to tell approach control we would not accept that approach. Eventually we were vectored for a straight in approach to 31R. I refused for several reasons: 1) I did not have time to retrieve the chart and brief the approach. 2) I had never flown the approach. 3) I had never reviewed the plate. 4) I had never even seen the approach flown for the last 5 yrs (I was an flight engineer at the time). 5) I have a strong prejudice against all visuals. 6) I am not based at dfw and am not familiar enough with the local area to be comfortable with a charted visual approach. The approach assignment was given at a critical moment. During the brief flurry of activity while refusing the approach we overshot the localizer. I had already turned back to it when the controller gave us a 320 degree heading to intercept. My first concern will always be safety. I was extremely upset when the ground controller asked us to call ATC (they gave us a phone number). The supervisor threatened to tell my chief pilot. Whoopee!! ATC at dfw is one of the least professional in the us and I won't let those cowboys jeopardize my passenger nor my license!

Title: REPORTER REFUSED TO ACCEPT ATC CLRNC FOR VISUAL APCH AND REQUESTED AND RECEIVED CLRNC FOR ILS APCH.
Narrative: WE WERE FLYING THE SCURRY 9 ARR TO DFW. I HAD BRIEFED THE F/O ON THE ILS 35R APCH. WE WERE GIVEN NUMEROUS TURNS AND SPD CHANGES DURING THE ARR AND STILL HAD TO COMPLY WITH XING ALTS. IN OTHER WORDS, WE WERE VERY BUSY. APCH GAVE US A HDG TO INTERCEPT THE LOC TO 31R. WE QUICKLY BRIEFED THE ILS 31R APCH. WE WERE SWITCHED FREQS. THE NEW CTLR SAID TO EXPECT STADIUM VIS 31R. I TOLD THE F/O TO TELL APCH CTL WE WOULD NOT ACCEPT THAT APCH. EVENTUALLY WE WERE VECTORED FOR A STRAIGHT IN APCH TO 31R. I REFUSED FOR SEVERAL REASONS: 1) I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO RETRIEVE THE CHART AND BRIEF THE APCH. 2) I HAD NEVER FLOWN THE APCH. 3) I HAD NEVER REVIEWED THE PLATE. 4) I HAD NEVER EVEN SEEN THE APCH FLOWN FOR THE LAST 5 YRS (I WAS AN FE AT THE TIME). 5) I HAVE A STRONG PREJUDICE AGAINST ALL VISUALS. 6) I AM NOT BASED AT DFW AND AM NOT FAMILIAR ENOUGH WITH THE LCL AREA TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH A CHARTED VISUAL APCH. THE APCH ASSIGNMENT WAS GIVEN AT A CRITICAL MOMENT. DURING THE BRIEF FLURRY OF ACTIVITY WHILE REFUSING THE APCH WE OVERSHOT THE LOC. I HAD ALREADY TURNED BACK TO IT WHEN THE CTLR GAVE US A 320 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT. MY FIRST CONCERN WILL ALWAYS BE SAFETY. I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET WHEN THE GND CTLR ASKED US TO CALL ATC (THEY GAVE US A PHONE NUMBER). THE SUPVR THREATENED TO TELL MY CHIEF PLT. WHOOPEE!! ATC AT DFW IS ONE OF THE LEAST PROFESSIONAL IN THE U.S. AND I WON'T LET THOSE COWBOYS JEOPARDIZE MY PAX NOR MY LICENSE!
