Narrative:
I had just completed filing my flight plan in lax operations when I spotted a hand written note on the bulletin board that attracted my interest. It seems that several flts (5) in the previous week had crossed the fillmore VOR below 15000' in an attempt to make the crossing restriction of 12000', 12 mi so. Imagine my surprise when I realized that we had just arrived in lax on the profile approach over fillmore and neither one of us remembered a 15000' restriction. I returned to the aircraft and suggested to the first officer that we had probably busted an altitude over fillmore of 15000'. He, of course, did not remember such a restriction. We reviewed the arrival profile together and realized that we had missed the 15000' restriction at the VOR because it was placed in the upper left corner of the arrival plate. I estimate that we crossed the VOR between 14000 and 14500' on our descent into lax. This altitude excursion probably occurred because neither the first officer nor myself could read, or because the restriction was placed in a position that made it difficult to remember. If 5 flts into lax ;within 1 week have missed that restriction, then there must be another problem. Why does lax center clear aircraft for the profile descent west/O mentioning the crossing restriction at the VOR.

Title: FLT CREW ON DESCENT DEVIATED FROM PUBLISHED PROFILE.
Narrative: I HAD JUST COMPLETED FILING MY FLT PLAN IN LAX OPS WHEN I SPOTTED A HAND WRITTEN NOTE ON THE BULLETIN BOARD THAT ATTRACTED MY INTEREST. IT SEEMS THAT SEVERAL FLTS (5) IN THE PREVIOUS WK HAD CROSSED THE FILLMORE VOR BELOW 15000' IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE XING RESTRICTION OF 12000', 12 MI SO. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I REALIZED THAT WE HAD JUST ARRIVED IN LAX ON THE PROFILE APCH OVER FILLMORE AND NEITHER ONE OF US REMEMBERED A 15000' RESTRICTION. I RETURNED TO THE ACFT AND SUGGESTED TO THE F/O THAT WE HAD PROBABLY BUSTED AN ALT OVER FILLMORE OF 15000'. HE, OF COURSE, DID NOT REMEMBER SUCH A RESTRICTION. WE REVIEWED THE ARR PROFILE TOGETHER AND REALIZED THAT WE HAD MISSED THE 15000' RESTRICTION AT THE VOR BECAUSE IT WAS PLACED IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE ARR PLATE. I ESTIMATE THAT WE CROSSED THE VOR BTWN 14000 AND 14500' ON OUR DSCNT INTO LAX. THIS ALT EXCURSION PROBABLY OCCURRED BECAUSE NEITHER THE F/O NOR MYSELF COULD READ, OR BECAUSE THE RESTRICTION WAS PLACED IN A POS THAT MADE IT DIFFICULT TO REMEMBER. IF 5 FLTS INTO LAX ;WITHIN 1 WK HAVE MISSED THAT RESTRICTION, THEN THERE MUST BE ANOTHER PROB. WHY DOES LAX CENTER CLR ACFT FOR THE PROFILE DSCNT W/O MENTIONING THE XING RESTRICTION AT THE VOR.
