Narrative:
Taxiing from gate area at jfk, we were cleared to taxi on taxiway vb to make a right turn on outer taxiway. Considerable construction is in progress in the area of the inner and outer txwys after exiting the gate area. Taxiway vb is narrowed and edges of taxiway are defined by 8'x8' right/right ties. A slightly more than 90 degree turn is required to enter outer taxiway from vb. When to commence the turn is a judgement call and it is a very tight turn for a widebody transport. We felt contact with something during the turn, and subsequently determined we had contacted one of the 8'x8' right/right ties with the right gear assembly. We returned to the gate.I believe that since this turn is so tight for widebody transport aircraft, some form of 'commence turn' aid or device would be very appropriate at this taxiway intersection, or limit turns from vb to outer to left turns only--which are much more friendly to widebody transport aircraft at this intersection.
