Narrative:

This is the fourth letter to ASRS. The following was my experience that happened about 6 months ago at the time of the simulator check ride. As a widebody transport checker, I was scheduled to check the regulatory check for a captain in the simulator. The simulator was phase ii type, one operated by hydraulic power. After all persons concerned were on board the simulator, I pushed the button to operate and go upward in it by hydraulic power. This simulator can be operated about 30 seconds after the button has been pushed. It was happened about 20 seconds after pushing the button. Suddenly, the simulator dropped to the ground with a big sound. I thought at that time that the hydraulic power has been cut by some mechanical reason, therefore I went out through the door of the simulator to call the mechanists, of course, after it was completely grounded. At this moment, I realized it that whole building was moving, and then I understood it was an earthquake. The hydraulic system of the simulator was cut by the shock of the earthquake, and the simulator was forced to the ground. This earthquake was not so big and soon stopped; then I could continue my check. It was so funny, but a serious and very rare case!

Title: FLT SIMULATOR DROPPED TO FIXED POSITION DUE TO MOTION FROM EARTHQUAKE.

Narrative: THIS IS THE FOURTH LETTER TO ASRS. THE FOLLOWING WAS MY EXPERIENCE THAT HAPPENED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AT THE TIME OF THE SIMULATOR CHK RIDE. AS A WDB CHECKER, I WAS SCHEDULED TO CHK THE REGULATORY CHK FOR A CAPT IN THE SIMULATOR. THE SIMULATOR WAS PHASE II TYPE, ONE OPERATED BY HYDRAULIC PWR. AFTER ALL PERSONS CONCERNED WERE ON BOARD THE SIMULATOR, I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO OPERATE AND GO UPWARD IN IT BY HYD PWR. THIS SIMULATOR CAN BE OPERATED ABOUT 30 SECS AFTER THE BUTTON HAS BEEN PUSHED. IT WAS HAPPENED ABOUT 20 SECS AFTER PUSHING THE BUTTON. SUDDENLY, THE SIMULATOR DROPPED TO THE GND WITH A BIG SOUND. I THOUGHT AT THAT TIME THAT THE HYD PWR HAS BEEN CUT BY SOME MECHANICAL REASON, THEREFORE I WENT OUT THROUGH THE DOOR OF THE SIMULATOR TO CALL THE MECHANISTS, OF COURSE, AFTER IT WAS COMPLETELY GNDED. AT THIS MOMENT, I REALIZED IT THAT WHOLE BUILDING WAS MOVING, AND THEN I UNDERSTOOD IT WAS AN EARTHQUAKE. THE HYD SYS OF THE SIMULATOR WAS CUT BY THE SHOCK OF THE EARTHQUAKE, AND THE SIMULATOR WAS FORCED TO THE GND. THIS EARTHQUAKE WAS NOT SO BIG AND SOON STOPPED; THEN I COULD CONTINUE MY CHK. IT WAS SO FUNNY, BUT A SERIOUS AND VERY RARE CASE!
