Narrative:
On departure from hpn runway 16, a right turn to 320 degrees at 900' was required per SID. We maintained runway heading through 2800' due to tach generator failure (right engine), indicating 0 degrees % RPM on that engine. Our concern was the safety of our aircraft. Ny departure control advised us of our mistake and in a very disturbing manner gave us vectors and turn to 320 degrees to avoid lga approach course. No altitude or other restrictions were exceeded. Ny departure control was never advised of our problem and our problem was never mentioned due to the attitude of controller. Today I feel more and more responsibility is put on the crew and less on controllers who should understand a crew's responsibility for safety. Years ago we worked as a team--today it's more like police work and we pilots are violators and are subject to prosecution. Hopefully this brief message will be of some use for future pilot-controller understanding of each individual's priority.

Title: ACFT FAILED TO FOLLOW PUBLISHED ROUTE WHILE FLYING DEP SID AND MAY HAVE PENETRATED ADJACENT AIRSPACE WITHOUT CLRNC. UNABLE CALLBACK.
Narrative: ON DEP FROM HPN RWY 16, A RIGHT TURN TO 320 DEGS AT 900' WAS REQUIRED PER SID. WE MAINTAINED RWY HDG THROUGH 2800' DUE TO TACH GENERATOR FAILURE (RIGHT ENG), INDICATING 0 DEGS % RPM ON THAT ENG. OUR CONCERN WAS THE SAFETY OF OUR ACFT. NY DEP CTL ADVISED US OF OUR MISTAKE AND IN A VERY DISTURBING MANNER GAVE US VECTORS AND TURN TO 320 DEGS TO AVOID LGA APCH COURSE. NO ALT OR OTHER RESTRICTIONS WERE EXCEEDED. NY DEP CTL WAS NEVER ADVISED OF OUR PROB AND OUR PROB WAS NEVER MENTIONED DUE TO THE ATTITUDE OF CTLR. TODAY I FEEL MORE AND MORE RESPONSIBILITY IS PUT ON THE CREW AND LESS ON CTLRS WHO SHOULD UNDERSTAND A CREW'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY. YEARS AGO WE WORKED AS A TEAM--TODAY IT'S MORE LIKE POLICE WORK AND WE PLTS ARE VIOLATORS AND ARE SUBJECT TO PROSECUTION. HOPEFULLY THIS BRIEF MESSAGE WILL BE OF SOME USE FOR FUTURE PLT-CTLR UNDERSTANDING OF EACH INDIVIDUAL'S PRIORITY.
