Narrative:
Was cleared to taxi from FBO flying service on east ramp to runway 17L to hold short of runway 26. Airport diagram does not correctly show txwys. Ground controller intended for me to taxi north on taxiway parallel to 17L, turn right on diagonal taxiway and hold short of approach end of runway 26. According to airport diagram, there is no way to get to 26 west/O taxiing on to 17L. I assumed ground control wanted me to back-taxi down 17L and hold short of runway 26. Ground control stated that I was not cleared to back-taxi down 17L. Commercial chart does not show these 2 txwys to be connected. Taxiway is not idented on diagram (by letter). Actually, the 2 are connected. FBO's have recently moved to east side of airport and most local pilots are not familiar with this taxi procedure. More detailed taxi instructions should be given. Also, a report diagram needs to be revised and corrected.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF SMA UNAWARE OF COMPLETED TXWY--TAXIED DOWN RWY.
Narrative: WAS CLRED TO TAXI FROM FBO FLYING SVC ON E RAMP TO RWY 17L TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 26. ARPT DIAGRAM DOES NOT CORRECTLY SHOW TXWYS. GND CTLR INTENDED FOR ME TO TAXI N ON TXWY PARALLEL TO 17L, TURN R ON DIAGONAL TXWY AND HOLD SHORT OF APCH END OF RWY 26. ACCORDING TO ARPT DIAGRAM, THERE IS NO WAY TO GET TO 26 W/O TAXIING ON TO 17L. I ASSUMED GND CTL WANTED ME TO BACK-TAXI DOWN 17L AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 26. GND CTL STATED THAT I WAS NOT CLRED TO BACK-TAXI DOWN 17L. COMMERCIAL CHART DOES NOT SHOW THESE 2 TXWYS TO BE CONNECTED. TXWY IS NOT IDENTED ON DIAGRAM (BY LETTER). ACTUALLY, THE 2 ARE CONNECTED. FBO'S HAVE RECENTLY MOVED TO E SIDE OF ARPT AND MOST LCL PLTS ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS TAXI PROC. MORE DETAILED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD BE GIVEN. ALSO, A RPT DIAGRAM NEEDS TO BE REVISED AND CORRECTED.
