Narrative:
Cleared to takeoff; I [initiated and the] first officer set the power. At the 80 KT call I saw a helicopter to the right of the runway [drifting] toward my runway. As it began to cross my runway I called abort and aborted the takeoff. The helicopter pilot said he was sorry. The tower controller said the helicopter was cleared to takeoff and stay west of our runway. However that pilot didn't catch the 'stay west' part. So; he flew east right across my take off path.beware of helicopters.
Original NASA ASRS Text
