Narrative:
Newly purchased small aircraft. Flying 'home' from lincoln, ca to paine field, wa via redding, montague and overnight at parkside (battleground, wa). I received a checkout in the small aircraft 2 days prior to this flight (1.2 hours). Checkout was all done at lincoln at a large unobstructed field. Airplane was in current annual and in excellent condition. Approach to parkside was high due to trees and speed 65 KIAS on short final. Plane porpoised upon landing. I felt I could not go around due to lack of field remaining and trees obstructing departure. I attempted to put the airplane back down, striking the propeller. The airplane began a 'wheelbarrow' sideways (I believe on the nose gear only). The airplane skidded off of the right side of the runway onto grass. The nose gear strut broke off leaving the plane resting on its main wheels and broken nose strut. Antennas on belly and exhaust were undamaged. Damage was confined to: propeller and spinner, nose gear strut, minor scratches to cowling. Obviously there is possible engine damage due to the propeller strike. This incident was most likely caused by the following: my low time in this airplane, a poor checkout which did not include short field lndgs or go around practice, lack of experience at short, obstructed fields in this airplane, my perception that the field was too short to go around once down (it was probably long enough), high approach, speed slightly high for this field length.

Title: INEXPERIENCED PLT HEADING HOME IN NEW AIRPLANE, STOPS AT UNCONTROLLED SHORT FIELD ARPT. APCHING SLIGHTLY FAST, HE DAMAGES THE ACFT UPON LNDG.
Narrative: NEWLY PURCHASED SMA. FLYING 'HOME' FROM LINCOLN, CA TO PAINE FIELD, WA VIA REDDING, MONTAGUE AND OVERNIGHT AT PARKSIDE (BATTLEGROUND, WA). I RECEIVED A CHECKOUT IN THE SMA 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS FLT (1.2 HRS). CHECKOUT WAS ALL DONE AT LINCOLN AT A LARGE UNOBSTRUCTED FIELD. AIRPLANE WAS IN CURRENT ANNUAL AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. APCH TO PARKSIDE WAS HIGH DUE TO TREES AND SPEED 65 KIAS ON SHORT FINAL. PLANE PORPOISED UPON LNDG. I FELT I COULD NOT GO AROUND DUE TO LACK OF FIELD REMAINING AND TREES OBSTRUCTING DEP. I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE AIRPLANE BACK DOWN, STRIKING THE PROP. THE AIRPLANE BEGAN A 'WHEELBARROW' SIDEWAYS (I BELIEVE ON THE NOSE GEAR ONLY). THE AIRPLANE SKIDDED OFF OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RWY ONTO GRASS. THE NOSE GEAR STRUT BROKE OFF LEAVING THE PLANE RESTING ON ITS MAIN WHEELS AND BROKEN NOSE STRUT. ANTENNAS ON BELLY AND EXHAUST WERE UNDAMAGED. DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO: PROP AND SPINNER, NOSE GEAR STRUT, MINOR SCRATCHES TO COWLING. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE DUE TO THE PROP STRIKE. THIS INCIDENT WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY THE FOLLOWING: MY LOW TIME IN THIS AIRPLANE, A POOR CHECKOUT WHICH DID NOT INCLUDE SHORT FIELD LNDGS OR GO AROUND PRACTICE, LACK OF EXPERIENCE AT SHORT, OBSTRUCTED FIELDS IN THIS AIRPLANE, MY PERCEPTION THAT THE FIELD WAS TOO SHORT TO GO AROUND ONCE DOWN (IT WAS PROBABLY LONG ENOUGH), HIGH APCH, SPEED SLIGHTLY HIGH FOR THIS FIELD LENGTH.
