Narrative:
I was returning to texas soaring association gliderport, midlothian, tx following a cross country soaring flight. Due to passage of a cold front, lift was shut off and I was low and needing a place to land. I had selected the corsicana airport and at the base entry point, encountered rising air and began to circle in an attempt to gain altitude and complete my trip. Due to a wind from the east, my circle drifted across the final approach to the airport. (I started circling east of the runway, the traffic pattern was to the west.) as I was directly over the final approach, I noticed a light single engine aircraft turn final directly under me. I don't know whether he saw me or not, no evasive action was taken by either aircraft. This incident could have been prevented if I had simply entered the pattern and landed but the desire to avoid a trailered retrieve (approximately 50 mi) clouded my judgement.

Title: GLIDER PLT HAS NMAC WITH SMA WHILE EXECUTING NON STANDARD APCH CIRCUIT TO UNCONTROLLED ARPT.
Narrative: I WAS RETURNING TO TEXAS SOARING ASSOCIATION GLIDERPORT, MIDLOTHIAN, TX FOLLOWING A CROSS COUNTRY SOARING FLT. DUE TO PASSAGE OF A COLD FRONT, LIFT WAS SHUT OFF AND I WAS LOW AND NEEDING A PLACE TO LAND. I HAD SELECTED THE CORSICANA ARPT AND AT THE BASE ENTRY POINT, ENCOUNTERED RISING AIR AND BEGAN TO CIRCLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO GAIN ALT AND COMPLETE MY TRIP. DUE TO A WIND FROM THE EAST, MY CIRCLE DRIFTED ACROSS THE FINAL APCH TO THE ARPT. (I STARTED CIRCLING EAST OF THE RWY, THE TFC PATTERN WAS TO THE WEST.) AS I WAS DIRECTLY OVER THE FINAL APCH, I NOTICED A LIGHT SINGLE ENGINE ACFT TURN FINAL DIRECTLY UNDER ME. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER HE SAW ME OR NOT, NO EVASIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN BY EITHER ACFT. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF I HAD SIMPLY ENTERED THE PATTERN AND LANDED BUT THE DESIRE TO AVOID A TRAILERED RETRIEVE (APPROX 50 MI) CLOUDED MY JUDGEMENT.
