Narrative:
The aircraft involved were air carrier X and air carrier Y. I was working air carrier X at FL290 ord to dca at the ape hi sector. The pilot requested to deviate south of J30 and climb to FL330 for thunderstorms east of the ape VOR. Air carrier X was cleared to deviate south of course for WX and was climbed to FL330. The crw hi controller was working air carrier Y dca to day at FL310. He also was working air carrier Z with a similar call sign which he advised both pilots of. I became busy and had a tracker move into ape hi to help me. His first action was to point out air carrier X climbing to FL330 to crw hi and deviating for WX which was approved. We later received a handoff on air carrier Y atl FL310 and asked the crw hi controller to descend air carrier Y to FL240. He gave air carrier Y the clearance however air carrier Z took the clearance by mistake. In the meantime I tried to turn air carrier X to the east 080 degree to clear air carrier Y but the pilot would not turn because of the WX. I also tried to turn air carrier X to the southwest (240 degree) but the pilot advised he could not as he was between 2 thunderstorms. Supplemental information from acn 113365: air carrier Y issued descent clearance to avoid air carrier X and air carrier Z read back clearance. Air carrier Y was then told to descend (no answer). Air carrier Y told to descend (no answer). Air carrier Y told to descend again, finally acknowledges clearance.

Title: ACR WITH SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN TOOK CLRNC INTENDED FOR ANOTHER ACFT WITH IDENTICAL NUMBERS, RESULTING IN LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION WITH ANOTHER ACR.
Narrative: THE ACFT INVOLVED WERE ACR X AND ACR Y. I WAS WORKING ACR X AT FL290 ORD TO DCA AT THE APE HI SECTOR. THE PLT REQUESTED TO DEVIATE SOUTH OF J30 AND CLIMB TO FL330 FOR TSTMS E OF THE APE VOR. ACR X WAS CLRED TO DEVIATE S OF COURSE FOR WX AND WAS CLIMBED TO FL330. THE CRW HI CTLR WAS WORKING ACR Y DCA TO DAY AT FL310. HE ALSO WAS WORKING ACR Z WITH A SIMILAR CALL SIGN WHICH HE ADVISED BOTH PLTS OF. I BECAME BUSY AND HAD A TRACKER MOVE INTO APE HI TO HELP ME. HIS FIRST ACTION WAS TO POINT OUT ACR X CLIMBING TO FL330 TO CRW HI AND DEVIATING FOR WX WHICH WAS APPROVED. WE LATER RECEIVED A HANDOFF ON ACR Y ATL FL310 AND ASKED THE CRW HI CTLR TO DSND ACR Y TO FL240. HE GAVE ACR Y THE CLRNC HOWEVER ACR Z TOOK THE CLRNC BY MISTAKE. IN THE MEANTIME I TRIED TO TURN ACR X TO THE E 080 DEG TO CLEAR ACR Y BUT THE PLT WOULD NOT TURN BECAUSE OF THE WX. I ALSO TRIED TO TURN ACR X TO THE SW (240 DEG) BUT THE PLT ADVISED HE COULD NOT AS HE WAS BETWEEN 2 TSTMS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 113365: ACR Y ISSUED DSCNT CLRNC TO AVOID ACR X AND ACR Z READ BACK CLRNC. ACR Y WAS THEN TOLD TO DSND (NO ANSWER). ACR Y TOLD TO DSND (NO ANSWER). ACR Y TOLD TO DSND AGAIN, FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGES CLRNC.
