Narrative:
Departed with 52 gallons fuel for what should have been a two hour flight with a calculated 12 gallons per hour fuel burn. Inadvertent loss of fuel cap led to fuel exhaustion; at which point I initiated emergency landing procedures which resulted in a successful landing; with no harm to passengers or aircraft.

Title: C182 pilot experiences fuel exhaustion at 7;500 feet resulting in a successful emergency landing. A fuel tank cap is found to be missing after landing.
