Narrative:

East of smo cleared stadium visual for 24R, visibility was poor with haze and smoke approximately 4 mi. During base turn, controller called out traffic for us at 11 O'clock for the runway 25's. During the turn and while looking for traffic we apparently lost sight of runway 24's and saw the 25's. Lined up north 25R for a short time. ATC called traffic well below us at same time second officer stated we were south of hollywood park and should be north of hollywood park. We realized then we were lined up with wrong runway, corrected back to 24R and completed uneventful landing. Lesson: don't accept visual approach in marginal WX conditions just to help traffic flow/expedite arrival. Supplemental information from acn 114276: it was the first officer's first approach into lax as a first officer. Had been thee countless times as second officer and had demonstrated excellent first officer skills.
