Narrative:
En route to destination, corsicana, tx. Told to descend to 3000', cleared to scurry VORTAC, lost radio contact (both radios). Used portable and received clearance back to mwl. Maintained VFR on top at 4000' but to maintain VFR (above 1000 foot tops) went to 4400' for a short while. Many things happened. Altitude hold out, ADF needle malfunctioned, radio failure, VOR led indicator out. Domino effect. Cancelled meeting and flew back to VFR conditions.
