Narrative:
Center recleared us direct gayle J95 buf. Aircraft had been programmed direct coate direct lhy direct elm. During copying clearance automatic throttles disconnected. One pilot flying, one pilot troubleshooting. ATC asked where we were going. I repeated 'original' clearance. ATC recleared us direct buf. I do not think there was any problem but I definitely was not following last ATC clearance. I am a 25 year experience captain. I miss my second officer to do troubleshooting!
