Narrative:
I was lead aircraft X in a flight of 2 experimental category military jet aircraft operating out of addison airport, tx, operating VFR to the north. Upon beginning our return to addison airport from just south of sherman, tx the #2 Y aircraft reported a failure of his right wing slat. Upon calling addison tower I informed them of the #2 aircraft situation, and when tower asked if we were declaring a 'mayday', #2 responded with his mayday call and requested the emergency equipment to stand by. We flew a wide left pattern while the tower cleared the airport traffic area. The #2 aircraft proceeded to land without incident. I was instructed to extend my downwind leg to allow the equipment to clear the runway and was then cleared to land, which I did without incident.
