Narrative:
Normal IFR approach to runway 24R at lax with WX 17 scattered 12 mi 68 degree 58 degree 2505 29.94. Landing in VFR conditions. I (the first officer) was flying and after a normal touchdown and lift spoiler deployment, I attempted to apply braking from the green system (the primary landing system) and got no response at all (and no brake pressure applied on brake gauge). I released all pedal pressure and switched hydraulic braking source to the yellow system, while telling the captain of the problem and being told to do the same, applying braking pressure again. I still got no braking pressure applied at all! I continued pressure (constant and steady) until approximately 2/3 pedal travel and at this time got 2 or 3 quick jolts and a noticeable rumbling from the right side of the aircraft. Tower reported we had some smoke coming from the right main tires, which ceased as we slowed. The aircraft taxied as if one of the main tires was blown (which was the case) so we slowly cleared 24R and taxied across 24L to the parallel taxiway where we called for maintenance and got the passenger deplaned to a bus for transport to the terminal. Inspection of the exterior of the aircraft showed #4 tire blown, #3 and #2 flat-sides but still inflated. Review of the maintenance log (in greater detail) showed repeated brake problems, and tires being blown under normal procedures. Dunlap braked and anti-skid still need working on!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG ROLLING OUT AFTER A NORMAL LNDG PROC EXPERIENCED LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE N THE GREEN SYSTEM. FO FLYING QUICKLY SWITCHED TO YELLOW SYSTEM AND AT THREE QUARTERS BRAKE PEDAL MOVEMENT FELT RIGHT GEAR SHUDDERING AND ACFT WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP. RIGHT #4 TIRE WAS BLOWN, 3 AND 2 WERE FLAT SIDES. POSTFLT LOGBOOK PERUSAL REVEALED A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM.
Narrative: NORMAL IFR APCH TO RWY 24R AT LAX WITH WX 17 SCATTERED 12 MI 68 DEG 58 DEG 2505 29.94. LNDG IN VFR CONDITIONS. I (THE F/O) WAS FLYING AND AFTER A NORMAL TOUCHDOWN AND LIFT SPOILER DEPLOYMENT, I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKING FROM THE GREEN SYSTEM (THE PRIMARY LNDG SYSTEM) AND GOT NO RESPONSE AT ALL (AND NO BRAKE PRESSURE APPLIED ON BRAKE GAUGE). I RELEASED ALL PEDAL PRESSURE AND SWITCHED HYDRAULIC BRAKING SOURCE TO THE YELLOW SYSTEM, WHILE TELLING THE CAPT OF THE PROBLEM AND BEING TOLD TO DO THE SAME, APPLYING BRAKING PRESSURE AGAIN. I STILL GOT NO BRAKING PRESSURE APPLIED AT ALL! I CONTINUED PRESSURE (CONSTANT AND STEADY) UNTIL APPROX 2/3 PEDAL TRAVEL AND AT THIS TIME GOT 2 OR 3 QUICK JOLTS AND A NOTICEABLE RUMBLING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ACFT. TWR REPORTED WE HAD SOME SMOKE COMING FROM THE RIGHT MAIN TIRES, WHICH CEASED AS WE SLOWED. THE ACFT TAXIED AS IF ONE OF THE MAIN TIRES WAS BLOWN (WHICH WAS THE CASE) SO WE SLOWLY CLRED 24R AND TAXIED ACROSS 24L TO THE PARALLEL TXWY WHERE WE CALLED FOR MAINT AND GOT THE PAX DEPLANED TO A BUS FOR TRANSPORT TO THE TERMINAL. INSPECTION OF THE EXTERIOR OF THE ACFT SHOWED #4 TIRE BLOWN, #3 AND #2 FLAT-SIDES BUT STILL INFLATED. REVIEW OF THE MAINT LOG (IN GREATER DETAIL) SHOWED REPEATED BRAKE PROBLEMS, AND TIRES BEING BLOWN UNDER NORMAL PROCS. DUNLAP BRAKED AND ANTI-SKID STILL NEED WORKING ON!
