Narrative:
During departure briefing first officer briefed 235 degree after departure. On takeoff (first officer leg) he began a right turn upon which I asked what heading he was going to. He announced 335 degree (235 degree was correct). This heading is directly (335 degree) into the mountains. I stopped the turn prior to 255 degree and terrain wasn't a problem. We've got to remember to watch first officer's on their first trip.

Title: ALERT CAPT INTERVENES AND STOPS DEP TURN TOWARDS MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.
Narrative: DURING DEP BRIEFING F/O BRIEFED 235 DEG AFTER DEP. ON TKOF (F/O LEG) HE BEGAN A RIGHT TURN UPON WHICH I ASKED WHAT HDG HE WAS GOING TO. HE ANNOUNCED 335 DEG (235 DEG WAS CORRECT). THIS HDG IS DIRECTLY (335 DEG) INTO THE MOUNTAINS. I STOPPED THE TURN PRIOR TO 255 DEG AND TERRAIN WASN'T A PROBLEM. WE'VE GOT TO REMEMBER TO WATCH F/O'S ON THEIR FIRST TRIP.
