Narrative:
Cleared for the 5R approach to raleigh durham, nc airport. Turned nos approach plates to 5R in approach plate booklet. Laid approach plate flat in seat. Proceeded to make turns and dscnts as requested by radar controller at rdu. Looked back at approach plate and tuned in frequency for ILS. Cleared for approach and intercepted ILS. Approach turned me over to tower. Reported to tower. Moments later tower asked if I was tuned to 109.5. I reported negative. Tower said I was apparently tuned into 109.1 which was frequency for 5L. Tower then cleared me for a 5L landing. No conflicting traffic. I later looked back at nos chart and observed I looked at top page for frequency when I should have looked at bottom page.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TUNED WRONG FREQ FOR ILS APCH. TUNED FREQ FOR PARALLEL RWY.
Narrative: CLRED FOR THE 5R APCH TO RALEIGH DURHAM, NC ARPT. TURNED NOS APCH PLATES TO 5R IN APCH PLATE BOOKLET. LAID APCH PLATE FLAT IN SEAT. PROCEEDED TO MAKE TURNS AND DSCNTS AS REQUESTED BY RADAR CTLR AT RDU. LOOKED BACK AT APCH PLATE AND TUNED IN FREQ FOR ILS. CLRED FOR APCH AND INTERCEPTED ILS. APCH TURNED ME OVER TO TWR. REPORTED TO TWR. MOMENTS LATER TWR ASKED IF I WAS TUNED TO 109.5. I REPORTED NEGATIVE. TWR SAID I WAS APPARENTLY TUNED INTO 109.1 WHICH WAS FREQ FOR 5L. TWR THEN CLRED ME FOR A 5L LNDG. NO CONFLICTING TFC. I LATER LOOKED BACK AT NOS CHART AND OBSERVED I LOOKED AT TOP PAGE FOR FREQ WHEN I SHOULD HAVE LOOKED AT BOTTOM PAGE.
