Narrative:
During a routine flight, malfunction of the main rotor RPM indicator was evident. A precautionary landing was made to check the system. Being an a&P mechanic and approved under my company's aaip maintenance program, I disconnected an electrical coupling, cleaned it, checked the system's operation, which was satisfactory, and then departed the site to continue the flight back to our base. Our landing site was dark, unpopulated, remote and the WX was not cooperating.
