Narrative:
We asked approach about possibility of visual to runway 15, approach gave us vectors to 15 visual. Were told descend to 4000' and asked to report field in sight. We answered we had it in sight (never acknowledged our 'filed in sight' comment), at which time we started descent. At 3300', we lost contact with field. At same moment, approach asked why we had left 4000' as that was our assigned altitude. We said we had contact, but lost it. Approach then gave us vectors to ILS runway 7.
