Narrative:
My first officer was flying. An mlt had landed on runway 24, was instructed to turn left and hold short of 24L. He acknowledged this on VHF frequency 133.9 (that was the last tower communication I remember reference the mlt). We were cleared for takeoff on runway 24L, to climb to 5000' on a heading of 250 degrees. Just prior to liftoff speed we observed the mlt start taxiing. He taxied onto runway 24L in front of us. We were then above V1 speed, and our only option was to continue the takeoff. We were able to lift off over the mlt, but had our gross weight been up closer to maximum, we might have had a real problem. On our arrival at our destination, I called the lax tower and their people confirmed that the mlt crossed runway 24L west/O a clearance. Both the tower spokesman and I feel that the tower and our crew could not have handled the situation differently than we did.

Narrative: MY F/O WAS FLYING. AN MLT HAD LANDED ON RWY 24, WAS INSTRUCTED TO TURN LEFT AND HOLD SHORT OF 24L. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ON VHF FREQ 133.9 (THAT WAS THE LAST TWR COM I REMEMBER REF THE MLT). WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 24L, TO CLB TO 5000' ON A HDG OF 250 DEGS. JUST PRIOR TO LIFTOFF SPD WE OBSERVED THE MLT START TAXIING. HE TAXIED ONTO RWY 24L IN FRONT OF US. WE WERE THEN ABOVE V1 SPD, AND OUR ONLY OPTION WAS TO CONTINUE THE TKOF. WE WERE ABLE TO LIFT OFF OVER THE MLT, BUT HAD OUR GROSS WT BEEN UP CLOSER TO MAX, WE MIGHT HAVE HAD A REAL PROB. ON OUR ARR AT OUR DEST, I CALLED THE LAX TWR AND THEIR PEOPLE CONFIRMED THAT THE MLT CROSSED RWY 24L W/O A CLRNC. BOTH THE TWR SPOKESMAN AND I FEEL THAT THE TWR AND OUR CREW COULD NOT HAVE HANDLED THE SITUATION DIFFERENTLY THAN WE DID.
