Narrative:

During en route phase of IFR flight, cumulus buildups were encountered which could not be topped or circumnaved. Pilot requested higher altitudes and succeeded in avoiding buildups. Duration of flight above 12,500 probably exceeded 30 mins. No supplemental oxygen available and no pressurization of cabin. Pilot was not aware that far 91.32 prohibited such altitude until later. Continual and frequent review of far would reinforce details of regulations that may be forgotten.
