Narrative:
Climbing above 10000 feet east of pevee on the holtz 9 departure; seven miles in trail of a B777-200 on the same route; we had two moderate encounters with wake turbulence with large variations in roll. This necessitated us leaving the assigned track and required alternate heading instructions from ATC. We subsequently encountered two more wakes which required us to change headings again. Winds at altitude were from 050 at 5 knots indicated. The A321 will not out climb heavy jets when in trail on the same route.
