Narrative:
On a visual to 22L; into jfk; we were on a left base about 2;000 AGL; when on the left side of the aircraft we noticed an aircraft that subsequently turned out to be a good sized model airplane or helicopter about 100 ft below the airplane and about 500 ft or less laterally. It moved from front to aft and was headed west. We informed tower and lost sight of it when we turned final.
