Narrative:
Tower cleared [us] into position on runway. Aircraft behind us reported smoke and contained flames in the area of APU. We requested fire equipment investigate. There were no indications of fire in the cockpit or cabin. Fire department confirmed fire. Extinguished the fire and we taxied back to the gate and deplaned passengers.

Title: B757 flight crew holding in position on runway reported they were advised by an aircraft behind them their APU was on fire; although there were no confirming cockpit indications. ARFF was called to the scene.
