Narrative:

Company made a change in schedule on second day of a 2-DAY trip. Changed added an extra stop en route. Crew had received 8 hours reduced rest that night. Crew was originally scheduled for 8.5 hours flight time in a 24 hour period on reduced rest of 8 hours. When we returned to operations, the first officer questioned legality of remainder of trip. Dispatcher got angry, insisted that trip was legal to be flown and insisted we complete trip. En route it was discovered that trip was definitely illegal. Captain advised operations that we would not be stopping at one of our scheduled cities due to legality problem. Upon arrival at out station the captain called operations. Dispatcher again insisted that we finish trip or face disciplinary action. Crew flew directly back to hub and was 'written up' for not completing trip. Crew ended up being scheduled for 9.4 hours on reduced rest of 8 hours. Crew actually flew 8.9 hours, due to clear skies and no traffic delays. Obviously, the FAA needs to crack down on companies assigning trips that are not legal, and crews need to be real careful to check all trip carefully, regardless of what the company tells them.

Narrative: COMPANY MADE A CHANGE IN SCHEDULE ON SECOND DAY OF A 2-DAY TRIP. CHANGED ADDED AN EXTRA STOP ENRTE. CREW HAD RECEIVED 8 HRS REDUCED REST THAT NIGHT. CREW WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR 8.5 HRS FLT TIME IN A 24 HR PERIOD ON REDUCED REST OF 8 HRS. WHEN WE RETURNED TO OPERATIONS, THE F/O QUESTIONED LEGALITY OF REMAINDER OF TRIP. DISPATCHER GOT ANGRY, INSISTED THAT TRIP WAS LEGAL TO BE FLOWN AND INSISTED WE COMPLETE TRIP. ENRTE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT TRIP WAS DEFINITELY ILLEGAL. CAPT ADVISED OPERATIONS THAT WE WOULD NOT BE STOPPING AT ONE OF OUR SCHEDULED CITIES DUE TO LEGALITY PROBLEM. UPON ARR AT OUT STATION THE CAPT CALLED OPERATIONS.
