Narrative:
On climbout from lax we were held to 250 KTS, inbound to panache we were passing through about FL200, when we were cleared to climb to FL310. Within a very short time (I would guess less than 15 second) we were cleared to accelerate to cruise speed. I lowered the nose and began to accelerate. Initially I was holding about a 1000 FPM climb, but at that altitude and weight acceleration was very slow, so I lowered the nose further. I do not recall the climb rate during the entire time frame, but there was a short period of time (I would guess 30 seconds to 1 min) where we were level. During this period of acceleration an aircraft passed under us from right rear to left forward. We did not see the aircraft until approximately 120 seconds prior to crossing. We were never told of any conflicting traffic and the vertical separation did not appear unsafe. Approximately 1-2 mins after the aircraft passed, ZLA questioned our altitude. At that point, we were climbing through FL226. Again, we were not notified of any unusual situations or possible violations.

Title: LGT IN CLIMB WAS PASSED BY AN MLG ALSO IN CLIMB BUT AT FASTER CLIMB RATE AND HIGHER AIRSPEED.
Narrative: ON CLIMBOUT FROM LAX WE WERE HELD TO 250 KTS, INBND TO PANACHE WE WERE PASSING THROUGH ABOUT FL200, WHEN WE WERE CLRED TO CLIMB TO FL310. WITHIN A VERY SHORT TIME (I WOULD GUESS LESS THAN 15 SEC) WE WERE CLRED TO ACCELERATE TO CRUISE SPEED. I LOWERED THE NOSE AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. INITIALLY I WAS HOLDING ABOUT A 1000 FPM CLIMB, BUT AT THAT ALT AND WEIGHT ACCELERATION WAS VERY SLOW, SO I LOWERED THE NOSE FURTHER. I DO NOT RECALL THE CLIMB RATE DURING THE ENTIRE TIME FRAME, BUT THERE WAS A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (I WOULD GUESS 30 SECS TO 1 MIN) WHERE WE WERE LEVEL. DURING THIS PERIOD OF ACCELERATION AN ACFT PASSED UNDER US FROM RIGHT REAR TO LEFT FORWARD. WE DID NOT SEE THE ACFT UNTIL APPROX 120 SECS PRIOR TO XING. WE WERE NEVER TOLD OF ANY CONFLICTING TFC AND THE VERTICAL SEPARATION DID NOT APPEAR UNSAFE. APPROX 1-2 MINS AFTER THE ACFT PASSED, ZLA QUESTIONED OUR ALT. AT THAT POINT, WE WERE CLIMBING THROUGH FL226. AGAIN, WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF ANY UNUSUAL SITUATIONS OR POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS.
