Narrative:

Landing and departing pierson airport became inherently unsafe saturday due to a number of factors. While trying to depart person after the [preceding traffic] I was instructed by the duty officer in charge of the gliders that I needed to depart now because there was a glider on downwind. While departing after rotating I noticed a glider was final approach. I attempted to gain speed and then begin to climb with a right hand turn to avoid the glider. The glider was directly above me about 1/4 mile from the end of runway approaching toward me. This created an unsafe situation. Things that could have been done to prevent this situation: depart on runway 23 going with the gliders that were landing however the gliders were departing on runway 5 and landing on 23. I should have kept better track of the gliders in the air. I should not have listened to the duty officer and should have delayed my take-off roll till after the glider had landed. While attempting to come back to land at 2j8 with another aircraft we were notified that the airport was extremely busy. We opted to fly right traffic (upwind) to land because of a glider tow that was using the other side of the runway. It was later realized that pierson wanted you to fly on the west side of the airport for traffic patterns. This would have created a head on situation with a glider tow. This also prevented an unsafe situation after entering right traffic for 23. This put us on the downwind to the west of the airport. However due to congestion and gliders on the runway we were unable to land we made multiple 360's to the north of the airport. After the [traffic] landed we attempted to land however due to traffic on the runway we were unable to land. As a result we departed the pattern to the south. This created multiple unsafe situations due to traffic. This could have been prevented by splitting on the flight of two and going in one behind the other. This also could have been prevented by attempting to fly several miles from the airport to the west however there is a restricted area out to the west. Some other corrective action would be to stay away till glider operations slowed down for the day. I was properly rested however due to being in a high wing on departure it was hard to make contact with the glider. The glider operation should not be using reverse operations by departing on runway 5 and landing on runway 23. This create not only wind issues but also issues with traffic and other powered aircraft traffic.
