Narrative:
Although apparently non intrusive to ATC functions, a misinterp of information upon initial contact with ATC, which included the issuance of a squawk code, may have led to a false belief that clearance had been obtained for TCA entrance. Further discussion, after multiple handoffs revealed above situation.
