Narrative:
On descending via to iad; ATC advised us not to use the altimeter setting sent on the ATIS; as it was incorrect. Upon resetting the altimeter; we observed we were about 200 feet off altitude crossing a fix. ATC advised it was not our fault; and that it was a nationwide problem. He advised us not to worry about any repercussions. Cross verification or monitoring; aircraft settings; did not cross-verify altimeter settings.
