Narrative:
After runup I tuned AWOS for another check of wind and altimeter setting. Wind was less than 4 knots so I announced departure on runway 16; which is the calm wind runway at fleming field (sgs). I did not hear any other traffic calls so I powered up. As the airplane began to roll I saw an aircraft departing runway 34. I pulled power; started braking; moved right to exit at closest taxiway. As I approached the taxiway the other aircraft cleared overhead.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A pilot began the takeoff roll on SGS Runway 16 after making the suggested CTAF communications; then aborted and exited the runway when another aircraft was seen taking off opposite direction.
