Narrative:
10/89, large transport was cleared at dca to taxi on taxiway a in the area designated by ground control as the 'parking lot.' taxi instructions were requested a second time form ground control and the clearance was confirmed. It was requested from ground control if there was adequate clearance for large transport aircraft to taxi in the area of the 'parking lot' on taxiway a, and ground control confirmed that there was adequate clearance. Aircraft were parked approximately 18' off the yellow taxi line on the right side of the line, and approximately 40' off of the line on the left side of the line. The wing tip clearance required for large transport aircraft is approximately 54' on either side of centerline. Ground control admitted that they had too many aircraft to control at the time of the occurrence.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR LGT HIT PARKED LTT AS IT TAXIED OUT FOR TKOF AT DCA.
Narrative: 10/89, LGT WAS CLRED AT DCA TO TAXI ON TXWY A IN THE AREA DESIGNATED BY GND CTL AS THE 'PARKING LOT.' TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE REQUESTED A SECOND TIME FORM GND CTL AND THE CLRNC WAS CONFIRMED. IT WAS REQUESTED FROM GND CTL IF THERE WAS ADEQUATE CLRNC FOR LGT ACFT TO TAXI IN THE AREA OF THE 'PARKING LOT' ON TXWY A, AND GND CTL CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS ADEQUATE CLRNC. ACFT WERE PARKED APPROX 18' OFF THE YELLOW TAXI LINE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LINE, AND APPROX 40' OFF OF THE LINE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE LINE. THE WING TIP CLRNC REQUIRED FOR LGT ACFT IS APPROX 54' ON EITHER SIDE OF CENTERLINE. GND CTL ADMITTED THAT THEY HAD TOO MANY ACFT TO CTL AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURRENCE.
