Narrative:

Near miss with small aircraft. We were on bhm approach vector 150 degrees, descending the 6500' for 2000' (landing bhm). Small aircraft was VFR 6500' southbound for pns. We did not see each other in time for evasive action, and bhm approach did not see him until I reported a near miss. Small aircraft passed within 100' above us. No injuries--no evasive action. Small aircraft did not have a transponder one, nor was he talking to anyone. I think having a transponder on or requesting flight following would have prevented this scare.

Narrative: NEAR MISS WITH SMA. WE WERE ON BHM APCH VECTOR 150 DEGS, DSNDING THE 6500' FOR 2000' (LNDG BHM). SMA WAS VFR 6500' SBND FOR PNS. WE DID NOT SEE EACH OTHER IN TIME FOR EVASIVE ACTION, AND BHM APCH DID NOT SEE HIM UNTIL I RPTED A NEAR MISS. SMA PASSED WITHIN 100' ABOVE US. NO INJURIES--NO EVASIVE ACTION. SMA DID NOT HAVE A XPONDER ONE, NOR WAS HE TALKING TO ANYONE. I THINK HAVING A XPONDER ON OR REQUESTING FLT FOLLOWING WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS SCARE.
