Narrative:
Climbing out of boston after 33L departure, we were issued radar vectors, gradual left turns, to intercept the boston 183 radial. We were climbing to 6000'. As we passed through about 5400' departure called traffic at 11 O'clock. Looked for traffic but unable to spot it with the lights of boston below us. As we climbed through 5800' the traffic passed directly beneath us. We asked the controller his altitude and he replied 5400'. Aircraft appeared to be coming from boston.

Narrative: CLIMBING OUT OF BOSTON AFTER 33L DEP, WE WERE ISSUED RADAR VECTORS, GRADUAL LEFT TURNS, TO INTERCEPT THE BOSTON 183 RADIAL. WE WERE CLIMBING TO 6000'. AS WE PASSED THROUGH ABOUT 5400' DEP CALLED TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK. LOOKED FOR TFC BUT UNABLE TO SPOT IT WITH THE LIGHTS OF BOSTON BELOW US. AS WE CLIMBED THROUGH 5800' THE TFC PASSED DIRECTLY BENEATH US. WE ASKED THE CTLR HIS ALT AND HE REPLIED 5400'. ACFT APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM BOSTON.
