Narrative:
While circumnavigating a restricted area my portable GPS yoke mounted unit malfunctioned and locked up. After trying to get it unlocked and usable to no avail; I rebooted the unit. When the unit came back on it indicated that I had inadvertently entered into the edge of the restricted area. I immediately made a turn and exited out of the area. I feel that an additional backup unit online in the aircraft would have prevented this.
