Narrative:
While being vectored for an ILS to runway 22 at lga, N90 approach control had an apparent radio failure on 134.90 MHZ. First officer was attempting to reestablish contact on 134.90, while I attempted and established contact with N90 on 120.80. Controller on 120.80 asked us to try 134.90 again, and I advised controller that the frequency was out. We could hear other aircraft on 134.90, but no contact with controller, as first officer was still attempting to make contact on 134.90 on #2 radio. Controller on 120.80 cleared us to descend to 3000' and turn to heading 180 degrees immediately. I initiated the turn and descent at the same time. At this time, we were VMC and spotted traffic 600-800' above us and 3/4-1 mi away. We provided our own sep visually from the traffic in question. We were then cleared for the visibility approach to runway 22.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG ON APCH TO LGA LOST COM ON 1 FREQ, RESORTED TO ALTERNATE FREQ. TRAFFIC ADVISORY GIVEN, LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.
Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR AN ILS TO RWY 22 AT LGA, N90 APCH CTL HAD AN APPARENT RADIO FAILURE ON 134.90 MHZ. F/O WAS ATTEMPTING TO REESTABLISH CONTACT ON 134.90, WHILE I ATTEMPTED AND ESTABLISHED CONTACT WITH N90 ON 120.80. CTLR ON 120.80 ASKED US TO TRY 134.90 AGAIN, AND I ADVISED CTLR THAT THE FREQ WAS OUT. WE COULD HEAR OTHER ACFT ON 134.90, BUT NO CONTACT WITH CTLR, AS F/O WAS STILL ATTEMPTING TO MAKE CONTACT ON 134.90 ON #2 RADIO. CTLR ON 120.80 CLRED US TO DSND TO 3000' AND TURN TO HDG 180 DEGS IMMEDIATELY. I INITIATED THE TURN AND DSCNT AT THE SAME TIME. AT THIS TIME, WE WERE VMC AND SPOTTED TFC 600-800' ABOVE US AND 3/4-1 MI AWAY. WE PROVIDED OUR OWN SEP VISUALLY FROM THE TFC IN QUESTION. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR THE VIS APCH TO RWY 22.
