Narrative:
We had just requested a lower altitude due to turbulence. As we began our cleared descent to FL310, we noticed the oil qty on #2 engine decreasing rapidly. I retarded the #2 engine to idle, and as qty and oil pressure went to '0,' we shutdown the engine as per checklist. We then went to our engine out cruise/descent profile, received a lower altitude from center after information them of our problem. We were too high to land at sjc following the single-engine cruise/descent profile, so we made a more normal descent profile to a straight--in landing on sfo's runway 28R. ATC performed perfectly throughout this operation.
