Narrative:
We got re-assigned to fly an earlier flight versus our scheduled flight. Had no official pickup time from hotel so went down at xa:05 local for a xb:47 departure to be sure we were on time. After about 40 minutes in lobby; saw a car from company which does our transportation dropping off a crew. Went out and asked if he was our ride to airport. He said no; but our ride would be there. Later; hotel employee asked if I was captain X; I said I was. He said operations was on phone and wondered where we were. Replied still waiting for airport ride. He took contact information and called ride service. The problem was scheduling never arranged for ride to airport with re-assignment. Finally got ride to airport. Apparently; an announcement had been made; flight delayed due to pilots not showing up. True; but only because scheduling hadn't done their job getting us transportation. Got on plane; first thing fas say is they're 'pissed.' don't ask what happened; just start yelling at us. Only flight attendant a showed any professionalism; listened to flight brief etc. Even after situation explained to fas B and C. Flight attendant D never even showed his face. Our position and authority were totally undermined by company and flight attendant behavior. Only flight attendant a could have been counted on in an emergency. Shouldn't have even left the gate looking back on it. Only trying to make right by passengers drove us to continue. Both B and C made very disparaging comment upon their arrival to plane. An explanation of circumstances changed nothing. Flight attendant D totally pretended we didn't exist. Upon leaving plane I said see you to D; he said; 'oh yeah; you will see me.' was this some sort of threat? We didn't even feel comfortable eating our meals; fear they'd be tampered with considering the flight attendant vitriol. This wasn't a safe flight; and in fact we were working in a very hostile environment. Somebody at the company failed to do their job; and it was blamed on the pilots. The safety of this flight was very impaired by the actions of fas B; C; and D. And perhaps by whomever at the company didn't own up to their error; and blaming us. But the fas need to be professional; even if it would have been our fault; which it wasn't. They compromised safety.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Air carrier Captain reported being rescheduled during a layover; but the scheduling department failed to set up transportation resulting in a late arrival at the aircraft. The flight attendants are furious at the delay and are not interested in what caused it. The Captain believed that the safety of this flight was compromised by the attitude of the flight attendants.
