Narrative:

11/89. In my small aircraft I was making a VFR descent to land at ful autoplt. 10-12 mi north a 2000' elevation, the tower cleared me into the air traffic area to make right traffic for runway 24. I was set up for a 45 degree entrance for a right downwind for 24. At approximately 6 mi north of autoplt descending through 1800' in my 2 O'clock position and about 400-500' below me I spotted a helicopter on an e-erly heading. I leveled off my descent and kept a close eye on him to make sure we were not on a collision course. He passed directly below me at about 400'. I had no warning of traffic in my area from tower, but they were busy with landing and departing aircraft. I know in this very busy autoplt in good VFR WX you have to keep your eyes wide open at all times. After said helicopter passed safely below me, said helicopter pilot came on frequency (tower) and said, 'some sob just about hit me--get the # of that #$@%# plane, I want to report him.' I did not respond to him at this time. Upon landing and tying the plane down, helicopter pilot came over and confronted me as to why I flew so close to him. I could have asked him why he flew so close to me, but I said that it could have been closer, but I kept my eyes on him till safely away from me. He said he did not see me. A tower representative witnessed this and said we should file a report. I am not faulting any party, but the way the helicopter pilot's unprofessional way of handling it; would like to have serious talk with him.

Title: CLOSE PROX GA-SMA ENTERING TRAFFIC AND GA-SMA HELICOPTER NEAR FUL ATA.

Narrative: 11/89. IN MY SMA I WAS MAKING A VFR DSCNT TO LAND AT FUL AUTOPLT. 10-12 MI N A 2000' ELEVATION, THE TWR CLRED ME INTO THE ATA TO MAKE RIGHT TFC FOR RWY 24. I WAS SET UP FOR A 45 DEG ENTRANCE FOR A RIGHT DOWNWIND FOR 24. AT APPROX 6 MI N OF AUTOPLT DSNDING THROUGH 1800' IN MY 2 O'CLOCK POS AND ABOUT 400-500' BELOW ME I SPOTTED A HELI ON AN E-ERLY HDG. I LEVELED OFF MY DSCNT AND KEPT A CLOSE EYE ON HIM TO MAKE SURE WE WERE NOT ON A COLLISION COURSE. HE PASSED DIRECTLY BELOW ME AT ABOUT 400'. I HAD NO WARNING OF TFC IN MY AREA FROM TWR, BUT THEY WERE BUSY WITH LNDG AND DEPARTING ACFT. I KNOW IN THIS VERY BUSY AUTOPLT IN GOOD VFR WX YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN AT ALL TIMES. AFTER SAID HELI PASSED SAFELY BELOW ME, SAID HELI PLT CAME ON FREQ (TWR) AND SAID, 'SOME SOB JUST ABOUT HIT ME--GET THE # OF THAT #$@%# PLANE, I WANT TO RPT HIM.' I DID NOT RESPOND TO HIM AT THIS TIME. UPON LNDG AND TYING THE PLANE DOWN, HELI PLT CAME OVER AND CONFRONTED ME AS TO WHY I FLEW SO CLOSE TO HIM. I COULD HAVE ASKED HIM WHY HE FLEW SO CLOSE TO ME, BUT I SAID THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN CLOSER, BUT I KEPT MY EYES ON HIM TILL SAFELY AWAY FROM ME. HE SAID HE DID NOT SEE ME. A TWR REPRESENTATIVE WITNESSED THIS AND SAID WE SHOULD FILE A RPT. I AM NOT FAULTING ANY PARTY, BUT THE WAY THE HELI PLT'S UNPROFESSIONAL WAY OF HANDLING IT; WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SERIOUS TALK WITH HIM.
