Aircraft passed under us; opposite direction at 1;000 feet MSL approximately. Aircraft was making no radio calls and had no lights on; strobes were off or inoperative on aircraft. We were on downwind leg approaching our point of descent when the conflict occurred.

Title: An Instructor on the downwind at CTAF RNV reported a near miss with an aircraft showing no lights and apparently no attempted communications.
Narrative: Aircraft passed under us; opposite direction at 1;000 feet MSL approximately. Aircraft was making no radio calls and had no lights on; strobes were off or inoperative on aircraft. We were on downwind leg approaching our point of descent when the conflict occurred.
