Narrative:
Air carrier a airlines' flight xx was told by aus tower to taxi into position and hold on runway 35. Traffic landing on the crossing runway (31L) was air carrier B flight xy. Air carrier B flight xy was instructed to clear 31L by tower: 'air carrier B xy cross 35L on juliet, hold short of 35 and remain on this frequency.' the pilot of air carrier B xy read back the instructions to tower and then tower cleared air carrier a xx for takeoff on 35. As air carrier a xx was rolling the crew realized that air carrier B xy was crossing the active runway directly in front of them. Air carrier a xx was at V1 when it became clear that air carrier B xy would not stop, and rotated abruptly to avoid collision with the air carrier B flight. Tower advised that the distance from the south end of runway 35 to taxiway hotel (where the air carrier B flight crossed the active runway) was 3450'. The air carrier a flight used approximately 2500' to reach V1 (102 KTS) and the captain felt that it would not have been possible to stop the aircraft in time to avoid collision with the air carrier B flight.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CONFLICT BETWEEN ACR-LTT ON TKOF ROLL AND SECOND ACR ACFT CROSSING TKOF RWY, APPARENTLY WITH CLRNC.
Narrative: ACR A AIRLINES' FLT XX WAS TOLD BY AUS TWR TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 35. TFC LNDG ON THE XING RWY (31L) WAS ACR B FLT XY. ACR B FLT XY WAS INSTRUCTED TO CLR 31L BY TWR: 'ACR B XY CROSS 35L ON JULIET, HOLD SHORT OF 35 AND REMAIN ON THIS FREQ.' THE PLT OF ACR B XY READ BACK THE INSTRUCTIONS TO TWR AND THEN TWR CLRED ACR A XX FOR TKOF ON 35. AS ACR A XX WAS ROLLING THE CREW REALIZED THAT ACR B XY WAS XING THE ACTIVE RWY DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THEM. ACR A XX WAS AT V1 WHEN IT BECAME CLR THAT ACR B XY WOULD NOT STOP, AND ROTATED ABRUPTLY TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THE ACR B FLT. TWR ADVISED THAT THE DISTANCE FROM THE S END OF RWY 35 TO TXWY HOTEL (WHERE THE ACR B FLT CROSSED THE ACTIVE RWY) WAS 3450'. THE ACR A FLT USED APPROX 2500' TO REACH V1 (102 KTS) AND THE CAPT FELT THAT IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE TO STOP THE ACFT IN TIME TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THE ACR B FLT.
