Narrative:
We noticed the oil quantity and pressure were declining on engine number 3 and did a precautionary engine shutdown. We needed to descend (drift down) to FL330 and were not getting permission to do so on the radio. We put a request through the ACARS and received clearance to do so. We proceeded to divert to the nearest suitable field and landed uneventfully.
